Common Council

The Common Council meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 7:30 p.m., at City Hall. The council consists of six members, the mayor plus five elected members. Elected members serve four-year terms and are not subject to term limits.

Council Members:

  • Marty Shortridge - Ward Two
  • Roy Strayer - Ward Three
  • Robert Lindsay - Ward Four
  • Richard Jovanovich, Sr. - At-Large

Key Responsibilities:

The common council is both the city's legislative and fiscal body. As the city's legislative body, the council exercises many of the powers given cities through the passage of ordinances and appropriation of monies. The council fixes the annual salaries of all elected officials and establishes the annual salaries of members of the city's police and fire departments.

Located in Immigrant Square, the bull fountain is similar to those often found several centuries ago in small Italian towns.
