Police Merit Board

The Merit Board consists of a commission of five community members — two persons, who must be of different political parties, appointed by the mayor; one person appointed by city council; and two persons, who must be of different political parties, elected by active members of the police department.

Key Responsibilities:

The Merit Board is responsible for assisting the city with hiring and promotion of full time sworn police officers. They also, upon recommendations from the Chief of Police, discipline and terminate employment of police officers when they disregard police department rules and regulations.
